Record voice notes and turn them into text on your PC

⏱ 2 min readAs of October 2026

Some thoughts are quicker to say than to type. In JP Note you record them on your phone, in the browser or on your PC. The app on your computer turns them into text with Whisper, without sending the recording to a speech recognition service.

Before and after

Loose notes turn into one list

This is what many desktops look like. Press the button and watch JP Note turn it into one list with dates.

How it works

In the notes field you click 🎙️ and speak. The recording appears as a card with a waveform and syncs encrypted with your other devices.

Transcription happens in the JP Note app on your PC. The first time, it downloads a speech model of about 250 MB. After that it needs neither internet nor a server. Recordings from your phone are transcribed as soon as JP Note runs on your PC.

Try it yourself

Type a task the way you would say it

JP Note picks up the date, time and repeat and shows them before saving. Try one of the examples or type your own.

Simplified preview. The app understands more, for example “by 31 Oct” or “every 2 weeks”.

What you can do with the transcript

0 of 6 ticked off
  • SearchSearch finds words from the transcript like normal text.

  2. On the PC the transcript sits below the recording
  3. Meeting idea recorded, text moved into the note
  4. Search finds “mozzarella” in the transcript

Frequently asked questions

Does my recording go to a cloud service?

No. Transcription runs on your PC with Whisper. For syncing between your devices the recording is encrypted on your device first.

Do I have to set the language first?

No. JP Note detects the language by itself. If you always speak the same language, you can set it in the settings.

What happens to recordings from my phone?

They sync encrypted. The card shows that the transcript is coming until JP Note runs on your PC and writes the text.

Are voice notes part of Pro?

Yes. Voice notes with transcript are part of Pro and the trial. Pro costs €9.99 once.
