On the download page, get the file for your system and open it. Windows: run the installer. Mac: drag it into “Applications”. Linux: make the AppImage executable.

Move the mouse to the screen edge, press Alt+N (Mac: Ctrl+Option+N) or click the JP Note icon in the system tray.

Settings → Account → sign up with your email. You get a code by email, then all Pro features are unlocked.

On your PC: Settings → Sync → “Add device”. Scan the QR code with your phone or open the link and install the phone app.

Check your internet connection, then Settings → Sync → “Sync now”. Your data stays saved on the device and syncs as soon as it works again.

Settings → Sync → Devices → “Remove”. The device can no longer sync afterwards.

Use the recovery key you got during setup to set a new password. Without password and key we cannot restore encrypted data, not even on request.

Yes: Settings → Sync → Security. PIN, Windows Hello or Touch ID, on your phone Face ID or fingerprint.

Settings → Data & backups → “Backups” card → expand Restore. Pick the version you want and confirm. JP Note first backs up the current state automatically, so you can always go back. The restored state then applies on all your devices.

Automatically once a day, plus any time with “Back up now”. Free keeps 3 days, Pro 14 days. The files are in the JP Note data folder (“Open folder”) and are encrypted with your password just like your notes.

In a page menu (⋯) choose History of this page or History of the whole note, for a task ⋯ menu → History. You see earlier versions of the notes field, titles and tasks. Green marks what comes back, red what is removed. Restore brings that version back, the current one stays in the history. Notes field as of yesterday resets the notes field to last night’s state in one click.

You changed something while another device edited the same spot offline. JP Note keeps the newer change and puts your version in the history instead of silently overwriting it. With View you can compare it and bring it back in one click. If something was deleted on one device and edited on another, Restore brings it back.

Earlier versions 30 days, conflicts 60 days. The history is stored encrypted on each device, so every device shows what was overwritten there. On your phone, open a page and tap 🕘 History of this page.

Deleted notes, pages and tasks first go to the trash (Settings → Data & backups) and can be restored there. If it was already emptied, a backup from before the deletion helps.

Easiest with sync: sign in on the new PC and everything comes from the cloud mailbox. Without sync: Settings → Data & backups → export as a JP Note file, then load it on the new PC with Import ….

Your personal link from the app brings the most (Settings → Account → Recommend JP Note): if someone buys JP Note through it, you get 100 points, for up to 50 purchases within 365 days. On top come up to 100 one-time points for the starter tasks in the points shop, 5 points per correct answer in the quiz in the web app (from day 14 with an account), 50 points on your account anniversary and points when you are the first to report a bug we confirm. More in the manual.

Points from starter tasks, the quiz and anniversaries are capped at 400 within 365 days. Referrals and points for reported bugs do not count towards this.

No, that is not planned. You earn points with referrals, starter tasks, the quiz and reported bugs.

The quickest way is to invite people, a few purchases are enough for most designs. Buying points is not planned. In individual cases, support can help as a goodwill gesture or offer a design for purchase after talking to you.

No. Should we ever end the programme, credited points stay redeemable for at least 12 months.

If a purchase via your link is refunded, we deduct its points again. What you have already redeemed stays yours.

On the subscription page or in the app under Settings → Account & plan: choose monthly (€3.49) or yearly (€29.99) and go to checkout. Payment is handled by Stripe. Enter the email address of your account and the subscription is active on all your devices shortly after. No account yet? Register in the app afterwards with the same address.

In the app under Account & plan → “Manage subscription”, or without signing in via cancel contracts here. The subscription keeps running until the end of the paid period, after that nothing more is charged.

You keep it. When the subscription ends, you use Pro again. Without Pro the free version applies. Nothing is deleted, anything beyond the limits is only locked.

Yes, from the second payment 50 points per paid month, with the yearly plan 600 points at every renewal. For 600 points the points shop gives you one month of subscription. If yours is running, your next payment moves back by a month.

Yes, in the app under “Manage subscription”. Stripe credits the rest of the current period.

Stripe tries again over the next days and sends you an email. You can change the payment method under “Manage subscription”. Everything keeps working until then.

Stripe emails every invoice. You can also find all of them in the app under “Manage subscription”.

Press Alt+N twice. If that does not help: Settings → General → check the monitor. Newer versions re-dock themselves after sleep or a monitor change.

“Windows protected your PC”: click “More info” → “Run anyway”. The message appears because JP Note is still new.

Close the message with Done, then System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway next to JP Note. After that it starts normally. The full guide is on the download page.

Make the file executable (chmod +x). Newer Ubuntu versions often lack FUSE: sudo apt install libfuse2.

Push only works in the installed app from the home screen. Allow notifications on first launch.

No. As soon as you use sync, your content is encrypted on your device with your password. The server only stores encrypted data, we cannot read it either. So keep your password and recovery key safe.

You keep using JP Note for free. Anything beyond the limits of the free version is locked, but never deleted. After purchase, everything is back instantly.

Pro for one person, with no time limit: all Pro features, sync on up to 3 devices with 2 GB of storage, and all bug fixes and security updates. Some new features may later only come with a subscription.

Yes. Export them there as a BibTeX or RIS file and import it in the references note. Duplicates are skipped. It works the other way round too.

For the logins you would otherwise keep in notes, yes: protected, encrypted and with copy fields. JP Note does not fill in login forms in your browser, though. If you use many accounts with autofill, stick with a dedicated password manager.

Shared notes work, but are still new. You may run into the occasional bug. Please report it and we will fix it quickly.
